The Lewis & Clark Native American Law Students Association is proud to present…

11th Annual NNALSA Writing Competition

>>>UPDATE<<<

To encourage more submissions, NNALSA has extended the deadline and made other changes:

  • New deadline: FEBRUARY 1, 2012.

  • We have changed the page minimum from 25 to 15 pages.

  • We are accepting papers that have been submitted (but not published) to law reviews and other publications. However, the submission must still be the sole work of the author with no outside editing.

  • All submissions should be submitted via email.

First Prize – $1000.00 – Sponsored by Hobbs, Straus, Dean & Walker
Second Prize –  $500.00 – Sponsored by SNR Denton
Third Prize – $250.00 – Sponsored by Sonosky, Chambers, Sachse, Endreson & Perry

All awardees will also be recognized at the National NALSA yearly conference.

All prizes include a student registration to the 37th Annual Indian Law Conference in Santa, Fe NM, generously donated by the Federal Bar Association. Each registration includes two lunch tickets and a ticket for the Tuesday evening reception.  Awardees are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses.

Submit your best piece of writing on Federal Indian Law, Tribal Law, or International Indigenous Law. Existing work is welcomed. Due to the small number of submissions the competition typically receives, your quality writing has a great chance of winning – but you can’t win unless you submit. In addition to the fabulous prizes and recognition at the NNALSA conference, this award will make your resume stand out and demonstrate your expertise and commitment to Indian law.

Submission Deadline: 5:00 pm PST, February 1, 2012.

This year you can submit electronically. Visit the NNALSA Web Site at http://nationalnalsa.org/events/writingcomp/ for official rules and submission form. All submissions must be electronically submitted to nalsacomp@lclark.edu.

The purpose of the competition is to recognize excellence in legal research and writing related to Indian law,  actively encourage the development of writing skills of NNALSA members, and enhance substantive knowledge in the fields of Federal Indian Law, Tribal Law and traditional forms of governance. The competition is open to matriculated law students at any point in their law school career and regardless of race or tribal membership status.

Address all questions to Patrick Sullivan at nalsacomp@lclark.edu.
