Tribal Treaties Consultants

Position Description: The Oklahoma State University Library in Stillwater seeks applicants in the United States and its territories with expertise in Native American Tribal Law/Indigenous Studies to assist with a historic searchable database for Tribal treaties, by providing consultation services for this time-sensitive project. You will be assigned treaties from the 1904 U.S. government publication Indian Affairs: Laws and Treaties (Volume 2), compiled and edited by Charles J. Kappler.

The scope of this work includes:
• Assistance with categorizing applicability of treaties to specific federally recognized tribes
• Assistance with organizing treaties by states of location for the relevant tribes
• Assistance with identifying the location (not interpretation) of certain treaty provisions for indexing, such as hunting and fishing rights, rights of way, etc.
• Timely answer questions from project team members that may arise during the indexing process 

Work is expected to begin in mid-September and conclude in mid-November. All work/communication will be conducted remotely. For your time, you will be compensated a flat rate of $1,500 after the conclusion of the project.
