Position Title: Sustainable Transportation Fuels Internship

Position Description: INTERNSHIP SUMMARY
Western Resource Advocates (WRA) seeks an inquisitive and self-reliant research intern to join our Transportation Electrification team this Spring. The Sustainable Transportation Fuels Intern’s research project will focus on evaluating the long-term potential of hydrogen fuel cells and other alternate fuels in decarbonizing the transportation sector of the Intermountain West. This will include studying the technical and economic feasibility of these technologies in various use cases, exploring short term policy priorities and opportunities to advance these technologies, and examining the overall costs and benefits. The final product of the internship will be a report and presentation on the findings of the research. The Sustainable Transportation Fuels Intern will report to the Transportation Electrification Manager, and will work closely with our Transportation Electrification Policy Analyst.

LOCATION
This position has the option to be fully remote due to the COVID-19 pandemic, or work from one of WRA’s offices. WRA has offices in Salt Lake City, UT; Phoenix, AZ; Santa Fe, NM; Carson City, NV; Denver, CO; and Boulder, CO. The manager of this internship is based in Denver, CO. Candidates may be based anywhere in the United States, as long as they are available during our regular office hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
-Conduct research on technical and economic feasibility of alternate fuels (hydrogen, biofuels) in the transportation sector
-Interact with researchers and other stakeholders to expand knowledge on key topics
-Write a report summarizing the research as a final deliverable for the internship
-Deliver a presentation on the research to WRA staff and potentially external stakeholders.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Excellent communicator, written and verbal.
-Strong research and analytic skills.
-Experience managing research projects, and using research tools and systems.
-Motivated to take ownership of projects and demonstrate follow-through to complete tasks.
-Ability to maintain confidentiality.
-An interest, or academic/professional background in public policy, economics, or engineering.
-This internship is open to both students and non-students.

COMPENSATION
Interns are paid at $15.00 per hour. This is a part-time internship with an expectation to work 20-25 hours a week. WRA regularly works with students to help them obtain school credit for their internships.

TIMELINE
The internship will take place during the Winter and Spring of 2022. While the specific dates of this internship are flexible, the start date will be around February and will go through May.
