Summer Internship Scholarship
The National Native American Law Students Association (NNALSA) has partnered with the National Native American Bar Association (NNABA) to create the Indian Country Clerkship Scholarship to provide funding for a law student undertaking a summer legal clerkship with a tribe or a non-profit organization. Two (2) $1,000 scholarships will be awarded for internships taking place in Summer 2020. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide assistance to ensure that a student is able to commit to a summer position that focuses on issues within Indian Country.
Eligible applicants include first and second-year law students who have commitments or offers of employment from an organization or tribe AND who will be working on legal projects involving issues affecting individual Indians or Indian Nations. Please note that employment opportunities with law firms will not qualify for the scholarship. Eligible applicants must be current, dues-paying NNALSA members.
Deadline for submissions March 20th, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Submissions should be sent to National NALSA Secretary, Kacey Chopito, at nnalsa.secretary@gmail.com. Individual applicants will be notified of their application status on March 27th, 2021.
Applications should be no more than one page and should include:
· Short description of the organization or tribe where the work will take place.
· Short description of how the applicant thinks it will impact Indian Country.
· Location (city and state) of the employment/internship.
· Projected start and end dates.
· If the employment or internship is a paid position, please indicate amount of salary to be received.
· Other funding, if any, that will be provided to the applicant for work in this position (scholarship, fellowship, tribal funding, etc.).
· Proof of offer of employment.
· Headshot.
